We are about to do something wonderfully unhinged. Forget your sensible commutes and your predictable routes. Starting May 26th, we’re pointing the nose of our 2021 Subaru WRX STi west from Charlotte and not looking back... well, until we hit LA and decide to do it all over again, but in a different, equally awesome direction. We’re talking Clutsh Roadtrip 2025: ~7,250 miles of pure, unadulterated American road, and you're riding shotgun (virtually, of course... unless you can fit in the glovebox).
Obviously you take an STi on a trip like this.
Why an STi for a cross-country marathon? Because sensible is boring and because we are idiots. Because the rumble of that boxer engine is the heartbeat of adventure. Because Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive isn't just for snow days – it's for devouring tarmac, kicking up a little desert dust, and carving through mountain passes like the legendary Coronado Trail with a grin plastered across your face. This is the car that we all say we would love to take on a trip like this and then end up renting a minivan because it saves miles and will be less painful. We aren’t playing this safe. We are driving an awesome car across the country because fuck boring.
The Mission: Fun, but also lets consider this a launch event?
Yeah, we want to see America. We want to hit those bucket-list driving roads. We want to stand on the edge of the Grand Canyon and feel small, then wind the STi up Pikes Peak and feel like giants. But more than that, this trip is about you. It's about capturing the soul of American car culture, the beauty of the open road, and sharing it all as we build clutsh.com into the ultimate resource for car enthusiasts who are tired of the usual BS. We're chasing the perfect shot, the untold story, the authentic moments that make a road trip legendary.
The Path: From Southern Charm to Pacific Roar, and Back Through Legends
We’re blasting off from Charlotte next week, taking a southern swing through Mobile, across the heart of Texas (think big skies, big hats, and bigger buckles), and into the stunning desolation of White Sands. Then it's up the twisties of the Coronado Trail to Flagstaff, before a necessary pit stop in Vegas (what happens there... probably gets blogged). San Diego's beaches will call, and then it's LA-bound.
But that's only half the story. We’ll then point Subie north, hugging the Pacific Coast Highway through Santa Barbara and up to the Golden Gate. We’ll pay homage to the giants in the Humboldt Redwoods, maybe find a shoe tree or two, then carve east through Reno towards the otherworldly Bonneville Salt Flats. Those are sacred grounds. From there, it's into the crimson cliffs of Moab, a dash up Pikes Peak, a nod to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and then the final, glorious push back to Charlotte.
